Alberta Dance Theatre is a 26 year old modern creative dance company with a unique mandate. Through a collaborative process that engages the dancer in the creation of the show, dancers take responsibility for creating movement sequences under the direction of adult professional choreographers. The dancers 'own dances' are incorporated into the productions, allowing the dancers to grow as artists and deepen their understanding of dance as an art form and the creative process.

Canadian Children’s Dance Theatre is a contemporary dance company founded in 1980 by Deborah Lundmark and Michael deConinck Smith to present gifted young dancers in professional productions. CCDT has staged more than one thousand performances from Barrie to Beijing and has been hailed by the Globe and Mail as “a national treasure”.

TILT sound + motion is a downtown dance ensemble devoted to exploring current themes through cutting edge choreographic works by some of Canada’s hottest crafters of dance. TILT was launched to critical acclaim at the 2002 Canada Dance Festival in Ottawa, and has since performed for audiences throughout Ontario, from Dance Ontario’s DanceWeekend to the dance floor at Kitchener’s Club Abstract.

Coleman Lemieux & Compagnie (CLC) is a professional dance organization that creates, produces and presents works of art on a local, national and international scale. The Integrated Dance Artists Collective (IDAC) is a repertoire-based collective that connects artists across generations and forms of practice through the commissioning and presentation of new and celebrated contemporary dance work.

IDAC was conceived in 2001 by a group of young artists wanting to explore and nurture their own unique creative interests. Artistic Director Martha Carter is a Canadian-based director-choreographer-creator of dance, media and music works. The six provincial Arts and Culture Centres provide a variety of regional, national and international performing arts artists and attractions; they are located in St. John's, Gander, Grand Falls, Corner Brook, Stephenville and Labrador West.

The Atlantic Presenters Association serves as the Regional Presenter Network for the Atlantic Provinces.

The Canada Dance Festival (CDF) is a dynamic and unique organization offering the nation as its signature event a supreme experience in Canadian contemporary dance at each biennial festival. Through its other projects and activities the CDF demonstrated a leadership role in the dance community by facilitating an supporting many other important initiatives like audience development, professional development, dance literacy, your education and programming all necessary to create a well-developed art form. The commitment to further there initiatives is measured in our mandate and objectives, evaluation process and programming.

The CanDance Network is an association of specialized dance presenting organizations across Canada that serves dance presenters’ needs, and supports their work with the dance community and its marketplace. Members of the CanDance Network present seasons and/or festivals of new works in dance and related performance. Through presentations, residencies and outreach, the CanDance Network helps to develop a growing audience for contemporary work. Members of the CanDance Network offer the highest production values possible and pay local, national and international artists to perform and/or teach at theatres and site-specific venues across Canada.

Le réseau CanDanse est une association d'organismes de diffusion spécialisés en danse contemporaine dans tout le Canada, une association qui répond aux besoins de ces diffuseurs et appuie leur travail auprès de la collectivité de la danse et de son marché. Les membres du réseau CanDanse créent des saisons et organisent des festivals de danse où sont diffusées de nouvelles pièces en danse ou en disciplines connexes. Le réseau CanDanse aide à développer, au moyen de présentations, d’animations et d'approches diversifiées, un public de plus en plus nombreux qui s'intéresse à la chorégraphie contemporaine. Kinetic Studio is a performance and workshop series based in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Our mandate is to support and encourage local/regional dance artists throughout their careers from pre-professionals to established artists.

Live Art Productions is Atlantic Canada’s foremost presenter of contemporary dance. With a mandate to present national and international touring companies, Live Art annually programs between 4-6 dance events in Halifax. Regular presenting spaces include the 235 seat Sir James Dunn Theatre and the 150 seat duMaurier theatre. Live Art strives to increase opportunities for Atlantic audiences to witness world class dance performances and to stimulate creative exchanges with local artists. Recent artists include: cie. Marie Chouinard, Kidd Pivot, Daniel Leveille, Sara Shelton Mann, Gwen Noah/Mocean Dance, Red Sky, Roger Sinha, Natasha Bakht, Suzanne Miller and Allan Paivio, and Mary Ellen MacLean.

Neighbourhood Dance Works (NDW) has been Newfoundland and Labrador’s primary source of dance production and presentation for 25 years. The organization and its Festival of New Dance, held each summer in St. John’s, have grown to be one of the countries key players in small to mid-scale contemporary presentation. NDW is committed to the development of a vibrant professional community and the advancement of emerging and mature dance artists. It exists to promote exchange and growth within the Newfoundland and Labrador dance community and between local, national, and international artists and organizations.

Founded in 1986 by Robin Poitras and Diane Fraser, New Dance Horizons is a nationally recognized dance company dedicated to the ever-changing expressions of contemporary dance. As Saskatchewan’s only professional contemporary dance company focussing on the creation, production and presentation of contemporary dance, New Dance Horizons plays a distinctive and integral role in developing and strengthening the dance community within Regina and the province. New Dance Horizons activities are designed and developed with consideration of the history and the current state of contemporary dance in Canada combined with the unique situation of dance Saskatchewan.

New Performance Works connects the work of various dance artists with the public by presenting accessible, eclectic, professional performances to all sorts of audiences. This innovative organization was founded in 1993 as a forum to discuss and explore contemporary performance-based work. Unique in Vancouver, New Performance Works presents performances from a myriad of cultures and communities, including youth and those with mixed physical abilities. New Performance Works’ exciting, unique, inclusive and mind-expanding approach to dance emphasizes the fact that new performance, works!

Founded in 1994 and based in Peterborough, a city of 70,000 in east central Ontario, Peterborough New Dance presents independent choreographers and small to mid-scale dance companies, often including new work, such as commissions, premieres and works in progress. PND hosts educational and creative residencies consisting of classes, workshops, lectures and performances with visiting dance artists.
     PND also supports a number of initiatives aimed at developing the city's dance artists, of which the most prominent is Emergency, an annual festival of new dance and performance by area artists. A complete history of past presentations can be found on our website.

Heidi Bunting has been a member of the Grant McEwan College Dance Program faculty since 1994. A recipient of the 2003 Lee Fund for the Arts Award in Edmonton, for After Image Heidi’s creative work has been presented by the Brian Webb Dance Company since 1988. Heidi has been a guest artist as teacher and/or choreographer and assessor across Canada having worked in Vancouver, Montreal, Winnipeg, Toronto and Calgary. Prior to moving to Canada, Heidi performed and toured internationally with Dan Wagoner and Dancers in NYC. Heidi teaches a Cunningham-based contemporary technique class and is a choreographer.

Julie Duguay, originally trained in Bathurst, NB, graduated from The School of Toronto Dance Theatre in May 2004. During her studies, she worked with Massimo Agostinelli, Sylvain Émard and Julia Sasso, as well as repertory work from Tedd Robinson, Rachel Brown, Danny Grossman and two works from José Limòn, wich one solo interpretation of There is a Time. In Decembre 2003, Julie created a solo piece L’âme au foyer wich won her the Prix Éloize 2004 for artist of the year in dance. For the Gala des Prix Éloizes 2004, she performed Sous les main de Sergei Rachmaninov in collaboration with Éric Cormier. Julie will be seen in Sylphie Charest’s and Valerie Buddle’s new creation performed at the Fringe Festival 2005. She is also a member of Les Ballets Libres du Québec.

As an individual dance artist, I am currently choreographing, presenting and producing my own work. Supported by provincial and federal funding, the work is often collaborative in nature and can encompass the visual and media arts in addition to modern-based dance. Subject matter ranges widely from comedic topics to more reflective moving sculpture. As an ‘independent’, I hire dancers on a show to show basis. My objectives are to present a unique voice from Atlantic Canada and to work with, and present, some of the region’s finest dancers. In addition to performing and creating, I also present creative movement and modern dance workshops to a variety of students both in the school system and in the professional non-dance world. I currently work out of the Halifax Dance Studios.

Raised on a farm near London (Ontario), Tracey studied dance at H.B. Beal secondary school in London and went on to attend York University, graduating with an honours BFA in dance in 2003. Tracey is an independent dancer, choreographer, teacher, gymnastics coach and arts administrator based in Toronto. Her choreography has been presented by Larchaud Dance Project, the York Dance Ensemble, Series 8:08/Series 8:08 Season Finale, Festival de Danse en l'Atlantique, TIDF/fFIDA, Toronto Street Festival, Junction Arts Festival, A Choreographer's Ball, Harbourfront's Indie Unlimited, Vessel Dance Project and Small Potatoes Series. Andrea Spaziani is Toronto based performer, teacher and independent choreographer. Her work currently involves investigation into physical theatre and combing movement with gesture, characterization and suggestion. Andrea is an honours graduate of the Ryerson University Dance Program, a performer with the Integrated Dance Artists Collective, and she is also a guest mentor for the Artsmarts/ Breakthrough artists outreach program. Andrea has created works for dance and theatre audiences and was most recently featured in the emerging artist showcase at the Toronto International Dance Festival in 2006. Co-founded by Lawrence and Miriam Adams in 1986, Dance collection Danse is a national dance archive and publisher of Canadian theatrical dance history. The organization collects and preserves documents and artefacts donated by dance professionals and the general public dating back to the mid-9th century.

As Canada’s only dedicated dance book publisher, DCD has produces over 30 books to include biography/memoirs, reference, cultural history and educational resources. A semi-annual magazine, focussing on dance history research and DCD projects, is produced and mailed to interested individuals and organizations.

The archives are open to artists, students, scholars, media and the general public by appointment.

Inclusive of all genres, The Dance Current is a magazine that takes the reader inside the art and culture of Canadian dance. The Dance current is also an indispensable resource and communication tool for the dance professional including comprehensive information about workshops, classes, auditions and performance listings. Writer and editor Kaija Pepper is the author of The Dance Teacher: A Biography of Kay Armstrong and Theatrical Dance in Vancouver: 1880’s-1920’s (Dance Collection Danse Press/es). Her essays are published in Right to Dance/Dancing for Rights (Banff Centre Press 2004) and The Responsive Body: A Language of Contemporary Dance (Banff Centre Press 2002). Kaija has had a quarterly column in Dance International for over a decade, and contributes to the Globe and Mail, The Dance Current and other publications. She lectures on dance history and critical thinking, and teaches dance writing workshops. Kaija holds an MA in Liberal Studies from SFU.

The Society for Canadian Dance Studies is a support and advocacy group for anyone who studies or works in the field of Canadian dance studies. Dance studies encompasses a broad range of research areas including history, anthropology, movement analysis, ethnology, creative process studies, dance education, dance writing and criticism, among others.

The Society for Canadian Dance Studies encourages and promotes research and writing in Canadian dance studies, and provides a forum for dance researchers to discuss their work with each other.

Canadian Actors’ Equity Association (Equity) is the professional association of performers, directors, fight directors, choreographers and stage managers in English Canada who are engaged in live performance in dance, theatre and opera. Recognizing that the arts are vital to life and artists make an invaluable contribution to our society, the association supports the creative efforts of its members by seeking to improve their working conditions and operations. The business of Equity is to negotiate and administer collective agreements, provide benefit plans, information and support, and act as an advocate for its membership.

CADA/BC exists to enable dance artists to reach their full potential. It serves the provincial dance community, fostering excellence and the sustainability of the art form, while promoting a national and international network. CADA/BC endeavours to advance the status of the dance arts in society. Our members include: Professional dance artists, emerging dance artists, students, and associates (administrators, technicians, etc.).

CADA/BC provides a Training Fee Reimbursement Program (for professional dancers and emerging dance artists only), communications and email postings network, access to a medical and dental services provider, advocacy, a contract template for dance engagements, and selected discounts due to membership at various venues, studios, and other dance services organizations.
