by Lawrence and Miriam Adams in 1986, Dance collection Danse is a
national dance archive and publisher of Canadian theatrical dance
history. The organization collects and preserves documents and artefacts
donated by dance professionals and the general public dating back to the
mid-9th century.
As Canada’s only dedicated dance book
publisher, DCD has produces over 30 books to include biography/memoirs,
reference, cultural history and educational resources. A semi-annual
magazine, focussing on dance history research and DCD projects, is
produced and mailed to interested individuals and organizations.
The archives are open to artists,
students, scholars, media and the general public by appointment.

The Society
for Canadian Dance Studies is a support and advocacy group for anyone
who studies or works in the field of Canadian dance studies. Dance
studies encompasses a broad range of research areas including history,
anthropology, movement analysis, ethnology, creative process studies,
dance education, dance writing and criticism, among others.
The Society
for Canadian Dance Studies encourages and promotes research and writing
in Canadian dance studies, and provides a forum for dance researchers to

A qualified Benesh Movement Notator, Natasha Frid has studied and performed in London, Paris and across Canada, and has participated in projects with organizations including: The National Ballet of Canada, Les Grands Ballets Canadiens de Montreal, The Danny Grossman Dance Company, Le Conservatoire de Paris, and the School of Canadian Children's Dance Theatre. An Associate of the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing in Classical Ballet, Natasha is also a tutor of 'The Freelance Dance Teacher' module in Canada for the Royal Academy of Dance's Certificate of Ballet Teaching Studies. Natasha has introduced dance repertoire, history and literacy to hundreds of students internationally, via choreography and notation. |

Writer and editor Kaija Pepper is the
author of The Dance Teacher: A Biography of Kay Armstrong and
Theatrical Dance in Vancouver: 1880’s-1920’s (Dance Collection Danse
Press/es). Her essays are published in Right to Dance/Dancing for
Rights (Banff Centre Press 2004) and The Responsive Body: A
Language of Contemporary Dance (Banff Centre Press 2002). Kaija has
had a quarterly column in Dance International for over a decade,
and contributes to the Globe and Mail, The Dance Current
and other publications. She lectures on dance history and critical
thinking, and teaches dance writing workshops. Kaija holds an MA in
Liberal Studies from SFU.
